Principles of Design ~

Balance: is when elements that are put together so that they are all equal.


Contrast: is when two elements are very different such as complementary colors.

 

Emphasis: an element that stands out over the other elements, it is what you’d see first on a piece.

Figure/Ground:  is the perception to see parts of art as a solid. Like an optical illusion.

Proportion/Scale: Proportion is relative size and scale is various elements in a design.

Repetition: is a repeated element throughout an entire piece.

Rhythm: is the consistency of lines or color.

Unity/Variety: the wholeness of an artwork and the feeling that its complete with variation.
